KEYKatcher Magnum

KEYKatcher Magnum is the newest and most powerful addition to the KEYKatcher lineup. In addition to the standard features of the more basic KEYKatcher models, the Magnum has a number of additional features making it the most appropriate model for the security professional.

KEYKatcher

128-Bit Encryption

The KEYKatcher Magnum features 128-bit AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) encryption for maximum security. The same data security that is commonly used for banking transactions keeps your data safe and secure.

Time/Date Stamping

KEYKatcher Magnum has built-in time/date stamping with an internal battery back-up. Accurate time is maintained even when the computer is turned off, or the device is unplugged.

Time of Use Charts

A computer use charts show you at a glance when the computer is being used. Who was using your computer at 1 am on a Saturday morning? Was John at work last Friday? These questions and more are quickly answered with KEYKatcher Magnum's convenient time of use charts.

KEYKatcher

4 Megabytes of Data Storage

The KEYKatcher Magnum can store almost 4.2 million keystrokes. This is over 2,500 pages of text. Whether you're planning on writing a novel, or just looking to record for long periods of time, the Magnum has more than enough storage capacity.

TrueStamp™ Technology

TrueStamp™ technology makes it virtually impossible to falsify time/ date stamps. This extra level of security leaves no doubt about when activity occurs.

KEYKatcher

KEYKatcher (which resembles a standard keyboard connector but has an embedded microcontroller and a non-volatile memory chip which record keystrokes) is a very simple device to install and to use. KEYKatcher (or a similar device) should be part of any incident handler / forensic analyst's toolchest. While I don't know if I would use KEYKatcher for monitoring purposes without seeking quality legal advice, it is an incredibly useful gadget for recording your actions during an incident or forensic response.

KEYKatcher is ideal for incident response / forensic tasks because it works with any PC operating system and requires no software installation. This allows you to achieve the benefits of having a record of all typed actions during and investigation / response without running the risk of altering the host machine's state. Because KEYKatcher stores keystrokes in a non-volatile memory chip you can record on one computer, unplug it, then retrieve and save the results on another computer. Because KEYKatcher has a fairly modest price, you can even afford to toss it in the evidence bag at the end of the response if you think your actions are likely to require legal action.

Installation

To install KEYKatcher all you need to do is plug it in between your keyboard cable and your computer. The KEYKatcher is ready to record the instant you plug it in. Heat-shrink tubing is provided with each KEYKatcher so that you may attach the unit to the keyboard cable creating a tamper-evident seal which cannot be removed without your knowledge.

Retrieving Data

When you want to see what's been recorded, simply open any word processing program (Microsoft WordPad recommended) and type in your password. As soon as you password has been correctly entered a menu will be displayed on the screen. The menu gives you the several options, including: view memory, keyword search, and NETPatrol (which identifies all occurrences of www, .com, .net and http).
